  • 11/13/2006 - The Insurance Services Office (ISO) recently completed a Public Protection Classification (PPC) survey for the City of Platte that resulted in the overall fire safety rating for the City of Platte being upgraded to a Class 6 from the previous Class 7.  Throughout the United States only 19% of communities rated by ISO have achieved a Class 6 rating, only 52 South Dakota cities have achieved an ISO class 6.  ISO is the leading supplier of statistical, underwriting, and actuarial information for the insurance industry. ISO ratings are used by insurers to calculate premiums on residential, commercial, and industrial property within a community. The new ISO rating for Platte will take effect on February 1, 2007.  This will allow insurers the necessary lead time to incorporate the new rating into their underwriting reviews.  ISO rates a community based upon a set of criteria defined in the Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS). Three major features are evaluated: fire alarm and communication systems – 10%, Fire Department infrastructure – 50%, and water supply systems – 40%.
