Platte Fire Department members are reminded that some of these classes require pre-registration and/or pre-course work, full details for each class as well as registration information should be posted on the training board @ the Fire Station.  If you would like to attend a class please be sure to make sure any pre-registration or nomination needs are addressed, contact a department officer if you have any questions.

"CERTIFIED TRAINING PROGRAMS"

DRIVER/OPERATOR COURSE

The Delmar "Fire Pump Operations Course" is the accepted curriculum for this 24 hour course includes about 8 hours of practical activities.   Subject areas covered include: driving emergency vehicles, fire pump basics, maintenance, water supply, and pump discharge calculations.  

RESCUE TECHNICIANS COURSE

Introduced in 1999, the Rescue Technician's Course is about 40 hours in length with half of the class time spent in hands-on activities.  Automobile, School bus and Heavy truck extrication are covered plus low angle Rope Rescue, Water Rescue, Trench and Confined Space Awareness and Patient Packaging are all covered. 

CERTIFIED FIREFIGHTER

The foundation of fire service training is covered in the basic certified firefighter program.  IFSTA's 3rd or 4th Edition Essentials Program or Delmar's Firefighter Handbook can be used as the guide for this estimated 80 hour entry level program with an additional 40 hours of performance competencies.

"NEW" FIRE OFFICER PROGRAM

Officer level training is available for all current and potential fire officers.  This new 40 hour course uses selected sessions form the IFSTA Fire Officer curriculum as its basis.  Subject areas include fire cause determination, communications, and a significant study of Incident Command and Strategy and Tactics.

"NEW" FIRE INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION

Offered at least twice a year, the fire instructor course prepares future instructors to train members of their own organization as well as traveling to other departments.  This course starts with significant pre-course work on your own time plus one weekend of classroom study and presentations.
